Summary: Domestic bliss was defined by Yunho and Jaejoong's lives together.
The house was quiet, considering that it was almost one AM and everybody was more than just tired. Jaejoong wandered around, switching off all the lights in the living room and picking up any dirty dishes and cups on the way. Although he was as exhausted as the rest, he didn’t want to wake up to an invasion of ants all over the furniture.
The wedding was wonderful. Junho had gotten married to the warm and bubbly receptionist at Yunho’s accounting firm after dating for three and a half years. They had held the wedding in Seoul, with the after party in a grande and prestigious hotel—luckily very close to where Yunho’s high end apartment flat was located. And for that reason, some of their (least sober) friends had decided to crash over for the night before they headed back home the next day. It wasn’t a problem for Yunho, but Jaejoong knew that his boyfriend was a little busy with some overdue work at his job, and he wanted to help out as much as possible.
He washed and dried the dishes, cleaned the mess on the countertops and threw away all the empty beer cans and wrappers that littered the floor from their friends who were still persistently in the celebratory mood despite having hours of enjoyment. By the time he finished up, afterwards habitually making sure that all the doors were locked and windows closed, it was almost two AM. He switched off the light in the kitchen, and then headed to the bedroom, more than ready for sleep.
But Yunho wasn’t in bed, and Jaejoong realized he was still probably up working. He took a warm shower first however, applied his lotion and then padded to the study while toweling his damp hair. He leaned against the door frame, yawning, and Yunho who was hunched over his desk on his laptop, looked up.
“Come to bed, love.”
“Yeah sorry, I just finished up some documents,” the taller male rolled away from the desk and stretched his arms, letting out a tired sigh, “And I just emailed them explaining everything. Monday is going to be a busy day for me.”
Jaejoong hummed and walked over. Yunho immediately turned the chair around and welcomed the blond into his lap. “Smells good,” his boyfriend mumbled, nose in his hair, and Jaejoong smiled, adjusting his position so that his legs slung over the armrest of the chair. Yunho’s arms slid around his small waist, and after earning a kiss on his cheek, Jaejoong snuggled closer and closed his eyes. His boyfriend had been both the designated driver and dad of the group. Because of this, they hadn’t been able to spend as much time as they wanted to during the course of the last couple of days in which the wedding was arranged. Now that everything was over, Jaejoong felt content again being in Yunho’s arms.
“The house is a mess,” Jaejoong mumbled, fiddling with the buttons on Yunho’s dress shirt, “I can’t even imagine what your guest room looks like right now. I’ll clean everything up tomorrow.”
“You don’t have to do that, boo. I’ll hire a cleaning service,” the taller male ran a hand down his back soothingly, “And why are you still up? It’s so late.”
“I was just washing the dishes—“ he ignored Yunho’s disapproving look, “—because otherwise your house is going to be covered in ants. And excuse me,” he cutely poked his boyfriend’s chest while grumbling, “if its so late then you should be going to bed too.”
Yunho pulled him closer and nuzzled his head, obviously very sleepy, “I can sleep in tomorrow, but don’t you have to go back home to help your sister out?”
Jaejoong’s fourth sibling had decided to move out of the family home with her fiancé, and as expected of the baby brother, he knew he had to go help her with the boxes and any other sort of labour work.
“But she knows its been busy here, so she messaged me and said she’ll call me only if she really needs me because some of her friends are helping out instead,” he yawned mid sentence, and buried his face further in Yunho’s chest, “So we can both sleep in. Except for the part where those three wake us up for breakfast and then we have to lock the doors again after they leave.”
“That part sucks,” Yunho muttered into the strands of his hair, and Jaejoong giggled softy, “Hopefully they’ll still be asleep by noon or something. I do not want to get out of bed.”
“And you don’t have to,” Jaejoong looked up and pecked his jaw, “I’ll do it. You just sleep in.”
Yunho opened his mouth, and because he knew his boyfriend would protest, he pressed their lips together instead. That silenced the younger male, and they both relaxed into gentle, languid kisses. Jaejoong sat up straighter, and slid his arms around the brunet’s shoulders, deepening the movement between their lips until they pulled away for air. With their foreheads against each other and Yunho’s fingers warm and soft on his hips, Jaejoong whispered, ”I love you,” and for a second every ounce of sleepiness that he had felt earlier vanished right away the second Yunho whispered the words back.
Jaejoong made sure to wait until Yunho joined him in bed. Although he was half asleep, he forced himself to stay up, listening to his boyfriend shower in the attached bathroom. As cheesy as it was, he always preferred it when they fell asleep together. The wedding just reinforced his romantic little heart, and he couldn’t help himself but think about the possibility of them too, one day getting married. And soon enough he lay a mush in bed, toes curling in delight and cheeks turning red at the scenarios in his head of Yunho saying I do and sliding a ring onto his finger.
“What are you thinking about that has you smiling so goofily?”
Jaejoong looked over at the bathroom doorway, cheeks darkening further at the amused expression on the taller male’s face. “Nothing,” he tried to hum casually, playing with the sheets, but Yunho raised an eyebrow and he gave it away, “Just thinking about… you. And me. Us.”
Yunho’s lips curled into a smile and Jaejoong could feel an immediate little flutter in his chest despite the fact that they had already been together for almost three years, “You’re a cheeseball,” his boyfriend teased, walking over to the dresser, opening up a bottle of night care cream they both shared. He slathered a bit on his cheeks, and Jaejoong enjoyed watching the brunet pamper himself.
“But you love cheese.”
“I do, indeed.”
It was almost two thirty now, and Jaejoong let out a little yawn. Yunho turned around, climbing onto the bed and wearing only a pair of grey sweatpants, hovering over him with his arms on either side of the blond’s head. Jaejoong chuckled when he felt water droplets from his boyfriend’s hair land on his body. “You haven’t dried your hair properly,” he mumbled, slipping his legs over Yunho’s waist and sliding the towel from his shoulders. Yunho just made a tired noise, eyelids drooping, and Jaejoong smiled at the cute sight. “Sit up, baby. You cant go to bed with your hair this wet.”
Yunho moved backwards, landing on his butt on the bed and Jaejoong straddled his lap instead, and began to towel the mess of wet brunet hair. They stayed that way in comfortable silence, with Yunho’s face pressed against his stomach, almost asleep. There was a lot to do the following week, chores, errands and more events—but Jaejoong didn’t want to talk about any of them until he was sure that his boyfriend was well rested. Yunho had done too much already.
When Yunho’s hair was only just slightly damp, he slid off the brunets lap and eased him under the sheets. He draped the wet towel over a chair, switched the bedroom light off and then crawled under the sheets to join his boyfriend. He smiled when he felt an arm slide around his waist, and he turned his head just in time for their lips to meet.
“G’night,” came the muffled mumble against his shoulder, and Jaejoong ran his hand through Yunho’s damp hair soothingly, his other hand reaching down to intertwine their fingers together.
“Goodnight, love.”
When Jaejoong woke up, the first thing he realized was that the right side of the bed was empty. It took him a stretch and a few moments to process the fact that Yunho had woken up earlier than him and most probably let their guests out. He groaned, rubbing a hand over his face. He was more annoyed than appreciative.
After getting into the bathroom and brushing his teeth, he shuffled out of the bedroom and walked around the flat trying to find his boyfriend when he saw that the study was empty. And then he stopped, saw Yunho fiddling with something on the kitchen counter and clicked his tongue. At the noise, the brunet looked up sheepishly. “This orange is too ripe to cut, but I—“
“I told you that you didn’t have to wake up. Why did you?” Jaejoong frowned, perching a hand on his hip and raising an eyebrow.
Yunho chuckled, placing the knife aside and poking the half cut orange, “Why are you angry? I just saw how cute you looked when you were asleep and that convinced me to get up.”
“I’m angry ‘cause you barely had any sleep last night. You were replying to emails in the wedding and even after that,” Jaejoong muttered, walking over. He grabbed the ripe orange from the younger male’s hands, put it back in the fridge and took out a softer one. He ignored Yunho’s protests as he began to cut it up, his movements harsh and unhappy.
“Oh Jae, come on,” Yunho whined, reaching over and clinging to his waist. Jaejoong pursed his lips as his boyfriend pressed his face to his hip, nuzzling it, “I’m sorry. I already felt well rested by the time the guys knocked on our door, and you were full asleep so I really didn’t want to wake you up.”
“You should let me do some things for you, Yunho,” he mumbled softly, a slight unconscious pout on his face as he put the orange slices onto a plate before sliding it over. He patted his boyfriends hair as a sign that he wasn’t truly mad, but just a little frustrated. He knew that to any other person, he’d look ridiculous being upset over such a trivial thing—but nobody but him understood how hard Yunho worked, how much Yunho had done for him since the day they had met. And being unable to even let him sleep in on a weekend made him just a little sad. He wanted to give and give, even though his boyfriend said it was okay. For him it wasn’t.
The following week, when Yunho went back to work, Jaejoong decided to go surprise him. Yunho was a manager of one of the main budgeting departments, and as he had his own office, Jaejoong wouldn’t be able to distract the other workers with his little show of affection. He had been there several times already to know his way around, and smiled at the new replacement receptionist, saying that it would only take ten minutes with Mr.Jung.
Soon enough he was taking the elevator up to the third floor, and walked through the main cubicle area before navigating through a hallway. When he ended up at a familiar mahogany door, he knocked exactly five times.
“Come in, boo.”
Yunho was smiling amusedly when he opened the door, and Jaejoong grinned, leaning against it. Nobody except him knocked five times. “I should have knocked only twice, so that I would actually be able to surprise you,” he mumbled, walking in and closing the door behind him,
“Didn’t think it through.”
“S’okay, come here,” his boyfriend made grabby hands, and Jaejoong giggled, placing his little dessert arrangement on the younger male’s desk, and moved closer, “Why are you here? Not that I’m complaining, though.”
“Just wanted to drop by and give you some sweets,” he pointed at the basket that he had carefully filled with Yunho’s favorite goodies, “You know, since you’ve been trying to be the perfect man and boyfriend this past week, you silly bear.”
Yunho huffed, and Jaejoong squishing his cheeks continued, “But I can’t stay long. They called me in for the morning shift today. Gotta be there in about an hour.”
He earned a responding pout. “Okay then,” he pulled the blond onto his lap and pecked his cheek, “how is it going over there anyway?”
“All is well. But you know I still wanna leave,” he pursed his lips, resting his head on Yunho’s shoulder and getting comfortable after his boyfriend began to absently massage his legs, “As much as I love the place, I love the idea of owning my own restaurant much more.”
“Its going to happen, and you’re going to name it Kitty’s Cuisine,” Yunho grinned, and Jaejoong tried to give him a disapproving look, but was unable to stop the amused tug of his lips.
“What am I exactly? Your kitten, your baby elephant, your puppy or baby bunny?” He tilted his head, clicking his tongue, “Make up your mind, Jung, I seem to be a different animal everyday.”
Yunho nodded vigorously, squeezing his waist, “I swear you are. Right now you’re a kitten. Because you’re all curled up and warm against me—but when you’re angry you turn into a hawk and—“
“That isn’t cute,” Jaejoong whined, smacking his chest, and Yunho laughed, pecking him in gentle apology. They settled into a comfortable silence, before he asked into the crook of Yunho’s neck, “Finished up on the work yet?”
“Almost. I’ll probably be home at least an hour late. Will you be there?”
“I don’t think so, I should go help out with Sooyoung and her house,” the blond hummed, “and I’ll most likely stay over. You know, new big scary house. Baby bro has gotta protect her.”
Yunho, who was playing with his fingers, smiled into the palm of his hand and mumbled, his words muffled, “But she has her boyfriend. Baby bro is not needed.”
“She’ll always need me. They all need me,” Jaejoong said proudly, and Yunho’s smile widened. He leaned over and kissed his boyfriend softly.
“I love your love for your family.”
“What an interesting sentence,” the blond giggled fondly, and then snaked one of his arms around the brunet’s shoulder, his other hand playing with the younger male’s tie, “So yeah. I’ll be back tomorrow early morning, kay?”
“Okay,” Yunho nodded, their noses brushing, and then he paused, speaking a thought aloud without a hint of hesitation, “I’ve never felt so content in my life, Jaejoong. I’m so glad you’re mine.”
The blond paused, and his cheeks bloomed, his eyes playful but holding all the warmth in the world. “Where did that come from, Mr.Jung?” he whispered, biting his lip shyly.
Yunho grinned, kissing him and murmuring between the space of their lips, “I dunno. You just make me this way.”
“I’m glad I do, Yunho. I love you,” the playfulness was gone, replaced by fondness and that love, the love that Yunho had searched for his whole life, amazed that such a thing could exist, amazed that it didn’t only happen through movies or books. It was there in everything Jaejoong did for him, there in the way they talked and touched and breathed together, and he had truly, never ever felt so complete, this blissful before. He wasn’t one for cliché sayings, or cheesy lines—but he was sure, without a doubt, that Jaejoong was his other half, and he couldn’t be any happier about it.
