Summary: You can meet the love of your life in the strangest situations sometimes. Yunho finds that his way was a little stranger than others.
The doorbell rang—the noise Yunho had been dreading all day. That irritating melody of ‘ding dong’ which made him feel like he was just such a horrible, horrible person for.. well, not moving an inch from his sofa and blankly continuing to stare at his television screen.
Yoochun paused from eating his cereal at the noise. He glanced towards the door, and then towards the man who was apparently watching some kind of cooking show. “Um,” The man coughed, dropping his spoon back into his bowl, “Dude. There’s someone at the door.”
“Yeah,” Yunho whispered, eyes weary, “There is.”
Yoochun blinked. “Um,” He licked his lips awkwardly, tapping his fingers on the counter, “So… so you’re not going to.. like.. see who it is?”
“No. I know who it is already.” Yunho murmured and Yoochun watched as he turned up the volume of his show. He would have just let it go, Yunho, after all, had his reasons for everything—but whoever it was at the door, did not stop ringing the doorbell. He or she seemed extremely persistent, and when Yoochun glanced back at Yunho, who closed his eyes and laid his head against the back of his sofa in a defeated manner, he grew quite curious.
Maybe an ex-lover? Yoochun squinted his eyes but then shook the thought away. Yunho was not the type to avoid confrontation. He’d get the problem done and over with. But..
“Well, it’s not any of my business,” Yoochun mumbled to himself, shrugging as he resumed eating his cereal.
The ringing of his doorbell did not stop until about twenty five minutes later. At that point Yoochun sincerely hated whoever was behind that door.
It happened again, the next day. Yunho, as expected, curled himself up and pretended he was sleeping. But Yoochun demanded an answer. He was sure he couldn’t handle another twenty minutes of that god forsaken noise. “Yunho, who is it?” He stood in front of the man, hands on his hips and foot tapping the floor impatiently.
“It’s just nobody,” Yunho shook his head, voice meek.
“Well judging from the way the asshole doesn’t stop ringing the doorbell, for like years,” He throws his hands in the air, “It’s not just nobody. It’s somebody, Yunho. It’s somebody who is pissing the hell out of me, because I can’t even sleep. I can’t even, well, shit properly with that damn noise!”
“Yoochun—“ Yunho began, lifting his head, but his roommate shook his head, eyes narrowed.
“I love you bro. I love you a lot.” Yoochun placed a fist over his heart and pounded it dramatically, “But I cannot take this little bitch,” He pointed at the door, “anymore. You have to do something. It’s only day two and I’m sick of whoever that is already.”
“I—just, wait, listen to me,” Yunho sat up, and reluctantly looked Yoochun in the eye. “It’s..”
“It’s..” Yoochun squinted his eyes, edging him to go on.
“It’s….” Yunho’s voice was hoarse, struggling to finish his sentence. When Yoochun looked as if he was about to turn around and punch the door, he rambled out quickly in a rush,
“It’s just this kid, who wants to sell honey butter chips to me!”
There was a silence and Yoochun didn’t know if he was relieved or even angrier at that fact. Instead, he sat down and slapped a hand over his face. “Why, man. Why. What’s so wrong about some kid trying to sell you chips.”
“It’s not just any kid Yoochun, you don’t understand,” Yunho ran his fingers through his hair, eyes not even daring to look at the door, “It’s.. well.. do you remember that time I really hated that one guy from the bar… and I was drunk and angry in the freaking grocery store parking lot and I bumped into him there? Remember how I just punched him?”
“Hmm yeah, I remember,” Yoochun was trying not to smile at the memory. “Go on.”
“But… remember that it actually wasn’t him who I punched? It ended… it ended up being another guy who had a similar shirt, and I just mistook him for the bar guy.. and..”
“Yeah, so?” Yoochun tilted his head. It only took one look at the door, and then back at Yunho’s weary face for everything to click. “Oh.”
“Yeah.”
The rest of the day was spent with Yoochun convincing Yunho that it wasn’t all that bad. That guy could’ve been drunk too, and maybe he didn’t even remember. Or maybe he had just forgiven. Or maybe—
“He hates the shit out of me, because I punched him in the face and now he’s trying to sell me bags of honey butter chips.”
Yoochun sighed. “He’s obviously some student. Probably some school campaign thing to sell those or he just needs money

“I don’t know. At least 18. He’s pretty.”
“Yunho, concentrate,” Yoochun teased, earning a glare. “Dude. Really though. Should I just buy some from him and get this thing over with? He seems really desperate to sell them.”
“He thinks there’s a whole family in here, I guess.” Yunho shrugged and then nodded, “But okay. Can you just buy them? I’ll go hide.”
When Yoochun opened the door, he was quite amazed, to say the least.
In front of him stood a pretty redhead, wearing tight black jeans and a shirt with a skull printed on it, with a black jacket thrown over. He wore boots, his eyes were rimmed with black eyeliner and in his pale hands he was holding a simple bag of honey butter chips. At his feet were a box full of them.
“Wow.” Yoochun blinked.
“Hi,” The boy smiled prettily. “My name is Kim Jaejoong. My school would like—“
“Yeah, I’ll just take one bag.” He cut in, and the redhead tilted his head, and then beamed.
“Alright! It’s just ten bucks.” After handing the money to him and receiving his own bag of honey butter chips, Yoochun slowly retreated back into the house. Jaejoong stared after him, still smiling brightly.
“Okay.” Yoochun began to slowly close the door. Jaejoong still stood there. “O.. kay. Bye.” He awkwardly closed it. He turned around just as Yunho slowly began to crawl out from under the sofa. He rolled his eyes and threw the man the bag of chips. “You’re scared of a fairy.”
“A fairy?” Yunho stared at the bag, looking at it as if it was some kind of trap.
“He’s literally a fairy.” Yoochun was still in awe. “Like. I just opened the door and there’s a fairy princess there. Well, a fairy who really likes skulls and stuff. He’s like, an emo fairy or something.”
“I told you he was pretty,” Yunho sighed, throwing the bag back to him. “Well. He’s finally gone. You eat those, okay? I’m on a diet. I need to fit into a suit for Changmin’s wedding next week. Ugh.”
“You don’t need to diet.” Yoochun opened the bag and then shrugged at Yunho’s incredulous look. “What? Do you think even Changmin is dieting for his own wedding day? Yunho please.”
“Well, now that I think about it, I guess not..” Yunho trailed off, eyes zoning in on the yellow bag. Yoochun sighed amusedly and handed it over.
Yunho thought it was all over. He thought he didn’t need to tense up every time the doorbell rang.
So when it rang the next day, he stood up, glowing and fresh, yanking the door open.
A fairy princess stood in front of him.
It took only a moment and then the redhead’s lips parted, realization spreading over every inch of his, ugh, so gorgeous face. Yunho snapped back into reality, watching in horror, as the pretty teen dropped the bag of chips. He couldn’t process anything in his brain until the boy swung his arm back and punched him square in the jaw.
“Shit,” Yunho groaned, landing on the floor. He glanced over at the door frightfully and gulped as he saw the redhead stomping menacingly towards him, “Yoochun!” He screamed desperately, not wanting to die by the hands of a fairy, “Yoochun! Help!”
“What,” Yoochun screamed back, fear in his voice as he ran over from the kitchen wearing an apron. “Yunho, what—oh.”
He was greeted by the sight of a pretty fairy slamming his best friend against the wall and grabbing his collar. Yunho gulped visibly, eyes threatening to close. He was about to die. He knew it.
What happened next, or how it happened, was a mystery. Yunho found himself curled up on his sofa with Yoochun besides him and Jaejoong directly in front of him on the other sofa. The redhead held a bag of chips in his hands, squeezing it threatingly every time their eyes met.
“So. How are you, Jaejoong?” Yoochun smiled pleasantly, but it faded as Jaejoong squeezed the bag so hard that it just popped inside. They both watched miserably as the bag deflated pathetically.
“Cut the crap,” Jaejoong hissed, and Yoochun shrunk back. “We both know what I’m here for. I want to kill your friend.” The said man closed his eyes in a state of defeat.
“Okay, let’s calm down here,” Yoochun chuckled nervously, clasping his hands together, “Yunho’s not a bad guy, he—“
“He just punched me on the face on the day that I had to go to my brother’s wedding! Yeah!”
There was another silence. Yoochun laughed nervously. “Haha, what a coincidence! We have a wedding next week, too—“
“Ugh, shut up already,” Jaejoong muttered, leaning back against the sofa. He eyed the other man who was nothing but quiet. “You there. Do you remember the way you punched me? I had a black eye.”
“I’m really sor—“
“And that’s not all!” Jaejoong leaned forward, throwing the bag at him roughly. It hit Yunho straight in the forehead, “You ran away as soon as you punched me, you coward!”
Yunho just bit his lip, feeling guilty.
“You could’ve faced me, and told me why you punched me right out of no where! But nooo, you ran. You ran like a little bitch.” Yunho winced, Yoochun feeling horrible for his roommate. “You made me drop everything I bought. I bought expensive wine, too, and the bottle broke right there. You know how much that wine was?! It’s more than my entire life combined! I was saving up for it for literally five whole months! You’re an asshole. That’s what you are. You’re a—“
“Okay, I’m sorry, alright?!” Yunho stood up, making the redhead fall quiet, “Yes, I am a coward! Yes, I am an asshole! But I was scared, okay?! I mistook you for another guy, you were wearing a similar shirt that he always wore! And I was drunk, dammit! I couldn’t notice every little detail—“
“Your friend, what hair color did he have?”
“I—um, b-brown,” Yunho stuttered, watching as the pretty fairy stood up and stomped right towards him.
“So,” He whispered, their noses almost brushing. Yoochun looked away awkwardly. “So you couldn’t notice the fact that I had,” He pulled back, angrily pointing at his hair, “bright ass, red hair! Fucking idiot!”
“I— stop calling me names!” Yunho pathetically yelled back, “I was drunk, I told you! I’m sorry I ran away! I know this is all my fault, seriously. I’ll buy you your wine, hell, I’ll buy all of your honey butter chips!”
Jaejoong squinted his eyes at that. Yunho gulped. “You will?”
“Yes.”
“Every single one?”
“Every single one.” Yunho nodded.
That was the story of how Yunho slowly grew obsessed with honey butter chips. The story of how he would hiss and slap Yoochun’s hand if the man attempted to eat any of them. The story of how he ended up finishing them all in just one month. The story of how he had to go the gym to burn off everything he ate. The story of how Yoochun joined him but gave up a week later.
The story of how he stood in front of Jaejoong’s door, (the address was helped found by Yoochun, who seemed to become very close to the redhead over Facebook. They both seemed to have a mutual love for gushing and fanboying over Kim Junsu. He also found out that Jaejoong was nineteen and single) pathetically wanting more honey butter chips.
When the door swung open, Yunho was breathless. Jaejoong had no makeup on and his pretty red hair was tied up into an adorable little tree. He was wearing sweatpants and a sweater and he seemed quite sleepy. Of course, the sleepiness flashed into pure surprise after he saw who it was. “Yunho? What the hell are you doing here?”
“I.. um. Don’t punch me,” He stepped back cautiously. Jaejoong just stared. “But.. but I was wondering if you had anymore.. um, honey butter chips?”
There was a silence and Jaejoong looked amazed, crossing his arms against his chest and leaning against the doorframe. “You really love them, huh?”
“Yes.”
“You can’t find them at a store?”
“No. I don’t know why, but there’s none.”
“Yeah. They grew popular quickly and they’re running out of sale.” Jaejoong shrugged. “But no, Yunho. If you had forgotten, you already bought the ones I had. I’m done with my task from school and I don’t need to sell anymore.”
“Oh.” Yunho looked like a kicked puppy. He suddenly felt extremely embarrassed and ashamed of himself for standing in front of Jaejoong’s house just to ask for more honey butter chips.
“Okay. Thanks.” He turned around, cheeks flaming, wanting nothing more but to hide himself under his covers.
“Wait,” He was stopped by a sigh, and fingers gripping onto his wrist. “I can’t stand seeing you look this miserable over a bag of stupid chips.” Yunho looked at him hopefully. He wondered if he was imaging it when he saw Jaejoong’s lips tug slightly. “I can go ask for another pack from school.”
“Okay.” Yunho swallowed, feeling insanely happy. Happy over what, he wasn’t quite sure of. Happy over the fact that he would be able to eat more of those chips—or happy over Jaejoong, who was doing something surprisingly incredibly nice.
Whatever it was, he couldn’t fight the feeling of that weird fluttery feeling the next time Jaejoong arrived at his place. He ignored Yoochun’s pure look of surprise and knowing amusement as he sat down on the sofa with the redhead, eating the chips. He hadn’t even invited Jaejoong over to do this, but the redhead came in anyway, sitting right next to him with their shoulders brushing together.
“Jaejoong,” Yunho sighed in the middle of their chip eating session, biting his lip. “I’m really sorry, about what I did before. I want to make it up to you somehow. I’ve never punched anyone before like that.”
“It’s okay. I forgive you, and I’m over it,” Jaejoong patted him on the shoulder. “It was a mistake and you apologized a hundred times. I also got to punch you back, remember? Plus, you bought all my chips and even the wine. You’ve already done a lot.”
“Okay,” Yunho smiled, feeling relieved. He still did feel bad though. “By the way. Can I ask you why you never stopped ringing my doorbell?”
“Oh.” Jaejoong stared at him, “You hosted a party once I think and there was tons of people in here. I thought the easiest way to sell all of my chips was to sell them to a whole group of people. Which is why I never stopped ringing your doorbell. I was pretty desperate, and annoying. I’m kinda sorry about that.”
“You better be,” Yoochun swept past them and Yunho just rolled his eyes.
“Hey.” Jaejoong mumbled, voice quiet. “If you want.. you can still make it up to me.”
“How?”
Jaejoong shifted slightly and Yunho’s breath hitched as the redhead leaned over him, their noses brushing. He was blushing as he murmured, “By taking me out somewhere, maybe.”
“Oh.” Yunho breathed, eyes closing. “Y-yeah. Yeah. Okay. You would like that.”
“Yes,” Jaejoong nodded, and there was a gentle thumb brushing against his cheek. “I would like that a lot.”
That was how Yunho ended up taking the redhead to some kind of majestically park a little far away. It was so incredibly worth it, though as he learned things about the teen that completely fascinated him. He learned that Jaejoong was an amazing cook, that apparently animals really hated him and that he disliked pizza (Yunho was shocked, really). He learned that the redhead was just so beautiful, both outside and inside.
He also learned that the fluttery feeling he kept getting whenever he saw the fairy was called love, as helped by Yoochun. Yunho was skeptical about that, maybe a little nervous, but when Jaejoong kisses him one night unexpectedly, all his doubts are washed away and he was sure of it.
He was in love.
After thinking about it for a while, Yunho realized that his punch had actually lead him to love.
Oh, and honey butter chips.
